Keeping his head (and other body parts) above water.

Haha, it's not meant to be good. I just wanted to contribute this week :)
At work, so I didn't have anything to color the bubbles in with :( Except for a yellow highlighter? Haha.

Oldest Piece of Your Art You Can Find- Philip A. Buck

crayon on paper

Sorry it is a week late, but here is one of the oldest drawings I could find that still had a subject and wasn't just scribbles. This is (I think) a really really old self portrait I did as a lad. Apparently "U love I?" Hope you guys enjoy. Great Topic! Very fun!

Patterns/wallpaper 2- Philip A. Buck

Just a little experiment with pattern and wallpaper making. A very very rough piece, but it was fun!

You draw something (I drew a lil man,) and then cut it into four pieces.  Then tape or glue the pieces on a piece of paper diagonal from their previous spot and draw more (I drew random junk.) All this can be done digitally as well. Then put it together on the computer! MAGIC!

Heat- Philip A. Buck

When I saw that this week was "heat" I thought it very convenient because the illustration I am working on for The Amplifier is also about heat.  Here is the work in progress. -a simpler, more design-y one this time as apposed to the usual drawing heavy illustration I do for the paper. To see the final image, look for next month's issue anywhere on the streets of Knoxville or keep your eyes on my website. :)

Heat!

Ok, so it is incredibly hot here in Texas (today it got to 105) and I'm sure it's pretty warm where y'all are too, so my theme for this week is heat. I figured that I would leave it pretty general so that it would leave lots of room for creativity. :) I hope that everyone is doing great!

Reimagining a Classic in a Medium that You're Uncomfortable With- by Philip A. Buck

This is my reimagining of a panel from this Classic Peanuts strip by the legendary Charles Schulz. Here you can see the original panel. (click any image to enlarge.)
I took a cue from the awesome Jared Andrew Schorr, and worked with cut paper which is not my strongest media. Here is the resulting image from my initial attempt to scan the peice and correct it in photoshop. Still seems too harsh.
Well, I hope you friends dig it! Great theme! Great fun (give it your own go!)
-Philip

Update: I had figured this peice could be used to "kill two birds with one stone" and also submitted it to the REPANELED blog.  Surprise! It was accepted and is now featured on the site here!

Dreams -Philip A. Buck

I had this dream years ago, but I still remember feeling a mixture of awe, happiness, and fear.

As we ran as fast as we could to a nearby cave, one of us was spotted and immediately killed.  We tried not to look back as we heard the screams.  It wasn't until later when we met our alien guide, that we learned the large, beautiful, floating creatures could be appeased- even tamed.
Yeah, I definitely couldn't forget having that dream.

PAIN:Corn In Eye- Philip A. Buck

Click to Biggify
PAIN. When I was trying to think of what to do for this week's theme, I just kept coming back to this scene in the movie Nacho Libre. Now that certainly looks painful. I have been dying to do something with Nacho for a while...so that is what I chose to do an image of.  It's ink on Bristol board.  I'm not crazy about how the colors turned out so I'm also posting the just the B&W. I'll probably try it again sometime, but if any of you wants to give it a shot I'll send you the tiff file or something. :)

Graffiti- Philip A. Buck

The first thing I thought of when I saw Graffiti was the theme for this week was LdV's The Last Supper. I guess because it was early "wall art?" Haha I don't know.  Anywho this is what came to mind.  I wish I had been able to spend more time on it, but then again, I spent a lot more time than I should have on it already haha.  I hope you crazy, awesome kids enjoy!

Sock Monkey Crocheted Baby Hat -Katie

A sock monkey for monkey week! Sorry for such a lame topic, haha.
Crocheted for a friend's baby boy. I think I'll go back and make the monkey's brim a bit thicker with the blue...maybe fix his mouth line a bit.

Hope everyone's having a great, inspiring week! <3
